On the Joy of a Great Cup of Coffee

coffee k cups

I’ve heard that there are people who are not too enthusiastic to do coffee. If they drink coffee at all, they decide together for the weak, the average cup of coffee that tastes something like gasoline. Or worse, they spoon questionable chemicals disguised as “instant” coffee in boiling, dirty tap water. They trudge through the office one morning with a Styrofoam cup brown water as a pick-me-up, but never consider the real value of a large cup of coffee. If they had, they would not be able to consume such unpleasant mediocrity.

I never liked coffee until I was a really good cup back in about 1993 when I was visiting Seattle. That was before the coffee craze hit the rest of the country, and you could only get a really good cup of coffee in the north. Once I spent the first truly great cup of coffee (a cheap cup that I bought at a gas station), I had years pursued a repeat of the experience. I am convinced that, outside of Seattle, it is best at home with quality coffee beans and coffee quality achieved.

Coffee Beans – The most important element in brewing a great cup of coffee is the right coffee beans. Although I do not know much about beans and blends, I know what I like and that is what I cling to. There are certain brands that I prefer and some others I avoid. My very favorite is Biff. I love gourmet coffee, but I do not usually like gourmet prices. But, people make when Biff’s great gourmet coffee at a really good price. If Biff can not buy locally, you can find online at http://www.biffscoffee.com/. Another great coffee at a good price is Gevalia. In a pinch I will buy Peet’s Coffee and Jack Daniels. I think it is better to have a little more to spend on coffee, which I know I like to time as to brands I know, I do not know how.

Waste

flavored coffee – I’m skeptical, flavored coffees, in particular – unless, of course, it is one of the above brands. I personally want to avoid coffee, which advertise themselves as Italian roast, French roast or other dark roast. They are usually just burned my taste.

coffee machines – There are different types of coffee machines. I own a small espresso machine, but I rarely use. Espresso preparation requires very finely ground beans. It is not difficult to achieve with my Black and Decker sander – a large mill with a wonderfully affordable price. But all the loops and to express concerns and eventually started the fun out of my coffee. Now I prefer a simpler type of coffee maker. I love my DeLonghi with a built-in nozzle. It makes American style cappuccino and it does it very simply. Coffee should never be stressful.

If I’m out of town, I use an even simpler device – a Black and Decker 10-cup coffeemaker. It is a workhorse and it makes a very good cup of coffee.

Filters – Whether your coffee maker has a water filter, you always want to make sure that you are with pure water. Tap water is really queer the taste of even the strongest cup of coffee.

Speaking of filters – coffee filters, that is: I prefer to use the network type. I just rinse after every brew.
